Sierra Club Launches Ad Campaign
Ahead of Senate Action on Energy Legislation
(Washington, DC)--This week the Sierra Club began running radio and print ads in key states ahead of next week’s important votes on energy and global warming in the Senate. The ads urge senators to pass meaningful legislation that takes us forward in the fight against global warming. Any energy legislation passed by the Senate should put us on the path toward an emissions reduction of 80 percent by 2050, an achievable average reduction of 2 percent a year. The current package should specifically include a guaranteed increase in fuel economy, mandates and incentives to increase clean energy production and energy efficiency, and cannot include subsidies for liquid coal.
A radio spot, "Make Real Progress," urging constituents to contact their senators and urge them to make the right choices on energy is running in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Reno, Nevada; Manchester, New Hampshire; Little Rock, Arkansas; Ft. Collins, Colorado; Grand Junction, Colorado; Des Moines, Iowa; Rochester, Minnesota; Fargo, North Dakota; Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
A print ad, "Say No to Coal by the Gallon," is running in conjunction with the NRDC Action Fund in: Congress Daily-AM; The New Republic; St. Paul, Minnesota; Ft. Collins, Colorado; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Little Rock, Arkansas.
The print ad and mp3 audio of the radio spot are available at:

"Make Real Progress"
Last fall, Americans voted to move our nation in a new direction on energy.
Now -- when Americans are facing record high gas prices -- the Senate can deliver on this promise, but only if they beef up the weak energy bill now before them.
That's why we are asking our Senators to make real progress, to build a clean energy future and make meaningful cuts in global warming pollution.
To do that, the Senate must: guarantee improvements that make our cars and trucks go farther on a gallon of gas; increase production and use of clean, renewable energy; require improvements in energy efficiency; and block subsidies for liquid coal -- a bad idea that will actually make global warming worse...
Please call Senators [NAME and NAME] at 202-224-3121...
Tell them to strengthen the Senate energy package by enacting solutions that will give Americans clean power, clean cars, and a clean energy economy that creates thousands of new jobs.
